At Be Prepared Insurance, our purpose is to get you confidently on track with your Medicare needs. Our agents are dedicated to getting you the plans and coverage you need at the price you can afford. Below is a run down of the different parts of Medicare to give you some baseline information about what you may be looking for.
Medicare Supplements
Original Medicare doesn’t cover everything. After all, it only covers 80% of your out-of-pocket costs. Medicare Supplement plans are designed to help with the other 20% such as copayments, coinsurance and deductibles. To be eligible for a Medicare Supplement plan, you must already be enrolled in parts A & B, be 65 years or older, and be a resident in the state you’re applying in. You will not qualify for a Medicare Supplement plan if you are already enrolled in a Part C plan. To enroll, there is an Open Enrollment Period that spans six months and starts the first month you are enrolled in Medicare Part B.
Medicare Advantage
Medicare Advantage plans, oftentimes called Medicare Part C, are offered by private companies and can vary in the benefits they offer and in turn, their cost. Usually these plans bundle Parts A & B into a single plan. Many of them have $0 monthly premiums. They may also offer additional benefits not included in Original Medicare like Dental Vision and Hearing. Many people like these plans because they are convenient, flexible and offer flexibility and provider freedom. It’s important to note that members must stay within their chosen hospital and doctor network. To be eligible you must be enrolled in Parts A & B and live in the county the plan is provided.
Prescription Drug Plans
Medicare Part D is an optional benefit that adds drug coverage to Original Medicare. Be aware: There will be a penalty if you choose not to enroll in a Part D plan. Since these plans are offered by private companies, the cost and extent of coverage vary by plan to plan. Do research to find the ones that cover the medications you need. Each plans prescription drugs can change, and the dollar amount can fluctuate if you hit predetermined limits. Each PDP comes with its own formulary, or list of covered drugs, also note that some drugs are excluded from Medicare coverage by law.
